Top Cannabis Scientists and Researchers to Support and Follow

This list of the world’s top cannabis scientists and researchers was inspired by the passing of Raphael Mechoulam in 2023, who undoubtedly influenced every cannabis scientist detailed here. Supporting those who work in the science of cannabis is critical to overturning decades of stigma, pushing regulators to adopt cannabis science, and helping people understand the therapeutic and medical value of cannabinoids and other phytochemicals found in cannabis.

The cannabis scientists and researchers listed here are in random order, and, if readers want to add to this list, they can do so by contacting the author, Russ Hudson, at russ@cannabischemistry.org. This list includes academic scientists, medical researchers, plant scientists, analytical chemists, educators, and industry researchers whose work has contributed meaningfully to the advancement of cannabis science, medicine, cultivation, testing, and product development.

In general, publications of the respective researchers in this list are cannabis-focused or adjacent. The researchers present in this article may have many more publications under their name, but not directly relevant to cannabis, hemp, cannabinoids, or secondary metabolites common to cannabis.
